For those traveling from long distances or interstate, a popular option to make the trip worthwhile is to stay in local accommodation (Bendigo/Heathcote area), and come out for a lesson each day for a number of days while holidaying, or even morning and evening for a number of days. Keen handlers have even stayed for as long as a week and had 2 training lessons daily.

Sheepdog training or herding training?!
In recent years the term “herding” has started to creep into parts of the Australian sheepdog world. Many newcomers to working dogs simply don’t realize that this term has really originated in two places: America, and the show dog world.
The show dog associations tend to talk about “herding”, whereas the true Australian sheepdog associations, trainers, stockmen and stockwomen, and farmers, never do – it is “sheepdog training” and “sheepdogs”, never “herding training” or “herding dogs”.
So to me it will always remain “sheepdogs” and “sheepdog training”, and never “herding”, in the true Australian tradition.
Bendigo and Heathcote have lots of accomodation options. Below are some links to dog friendly accomodation, or simply Google “dog friendly accomodation Bendigo or Heathcote”:
